HSSC CET Group D 2026 Exam Pattern

FeatureDetail
Number of Questions100 MCQs
Total Marks100
Duration1 hour 45 minutes (105 minutes)
Question Paper LevelMatriculation (Secondary Education)
LanguageBilingual – English and Hindi
ModeOffline, OMR-based
Negative MarkingNone for incorrect answers
Penalty for Skipped Questions-1 mark if the fifth “not attempted” bubble is not filled

An unusual feature of this exam is the “not attempted” rule: marking a wrong answer incurs no penalty, but leaving a question blank without filling in the designated fifth circle on the OMR sheet results in a one-mark deduction. The exam centre allotted on your admit card ordinarily will not be changed.

HSSC CET Group D 2026 Syllabus

The CET syllabus is divided into two weighted sections: 75% comprises general aptitude across five domains, and 25% focuses on Haryana-specific knowledge.

Part A: 75% Weightage – General Knowledge and Skills

  • General Awareness: History of India and neighbouring countries, Indian Polity and Constitution, Art and Culture, Geography, and General Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • Reasoning: Alphabetical order, series completion, coding-decoding, direction and distance, order and ranking, blood relations, analogy, classification, clock and calendar, mirror/water image, syllogism, sitting arrangements, statement-assumption-conclusion, counting figures, and non-verbal series
  • Quantitative Ability: Number system, simplification, decimals, fractions, LCM/HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, square roots, averages, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, mensuration, partnership, mixtures and alligation, time and work, time and distance, basic trigonometry, algebra, and geometry
  • English Language: Grammar, error spotting, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, spelling, idioms and phrases, sentence improvement, active/passive voice, direct/indirect narration, and tenses
  • Hindi Language: Varna, swar-vyanjan, sangya (nouns), sarvanam (pronouns), visheshan (adjectives), kriya (verbs), kaal (tenses), sandhi (conjunctions), samas (compounds), paryayvachi-vilom (synonyms-antonyms), muhavare-lokoktiyan (idioms-proverbs), and vakya shodhan (sentence correction)

Part B: 25% Weightage – Haryana-Specific General Knowledge

History, current affairs, literature, geography, environment, and culture of Haryana, along with the state’s economy, civics, polity, art, customs, and society.

Qualifying Marks: General-category candidates must score at least 50% to qualify. Reserved-category candidates (both vertical and horizontal) receive a 10% concession, requiring 40% to qualify.

Validity of Earlier Scores: Candidates who cleared the Group D CET held on 12/01/2024 retain valid scores until 11/01/2027. Their marks (originally out of 95) will be converted to a percentage and merged into the combined merit list with candidates appearing under the new 100-mark pattern.

Selection Process Change: Effective 12/02/2026, HSSC has removed socio-economic factors (orphan or widow status) from the selection formula. Selection is now based entirely on CET marks with no interview stage.

Reservation and Certificate Validity Rules

Reservation benefits are available only to bona fide residents of Haryana State. Reserved-category candidates from other states or Union Territories are treated as general-category candidates without any reservation.

BCA and BCB (Non-Creamy Layer)

Certificates must follow the format in Annexure-II and be issued on or after 01/04/2026. Certificates issued for Panchayati Raj elections or OBC certificates from Central Government jobs are not accepted.

EWS (Economically Weaker Section)

The family’s gross annual income must be below ₹8 lakh (revised upward from ₹6 lakh per 14/01/2026 instructions). The family must not own 5+ acres of agricultural land, a 1,000+ sq. ft. residential flat, or immovable property valued at ₹1 crore or more. The certificate must be issued on or after 01/04/2026 and is valid only for the financial year specified.

DSC and OSC (Deprived and Other Scheduled Castes)

Under instructions dated 13/11/2024, Haryana’s 20% SC reservation quota is now equally split between Deprived Scheduled Castes (DSC) and Other Scheduled Castes (OSC). If suitable DSC candidates are unavailable, unfilled posts go to OSC candidates, and vice versa.

Ex-Servicemen and Freedom Fighter Dependents

Ex-servicemen benefits follow the Government Instructions dated 25/05/2026. Reservation for children or grandchildren of Freedom Fighters (paternal or maternal lineage) follows instructions dated 27/10/2021 and 26/04/2022, applicable only when reserved Backward Class or Ex-servicemen posts remain unfilled.

Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

Candidates registering under PwBD must select the correct disability code at registration: VH (Visual Impairment), HH (Hard of Hearing), OH (Orthopedic, including locomotor disability and cerebral palsy), or MD (Multiple Disability, including autism and intellectual disability).

Scribe and Compensatory Time Facilities:

Candidates with blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), or cerebral palsy can use a scribe without a physical-limitation certificate. Candidates in other PwBD categories require a certificate from a Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon, or Medical Superintendent confirming scribe necessity. The scribe’s qualification must be Matriculation or below, and they cannot be an exam candidate. All eligible PwBD candidates receive 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour, extending the total exam duration from 105 to 140 minutes.

Selection Process for HSSC CET Group D 2026

Group D recruitment operates differently from Group C because there is no separate written exam beyond the CET. The Commission shortlists candidates purely on CET marks and publishes a category-wise merit and waiting list. When actual posts are advertised later, eligible candidates apply electronically to express their willingness for specific posts using their existing Registration Number. Only the candidate’s consent is verified; there is no fresh written test at any stage.

In case of tied CET marks, the older candidate ranks higher. If birth dates also match, the candidate whose first name comes earlier alphabetically (in English) ranks higher.

Exam Day Rules and Malpractice Penalties

Strict frisking and conduct rules apply at every CET centre. Items strictly barred from the exam hall include textual material, calculators, pens, geometry boxes, pen drives, mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches, wallets, belts, caps, jewellery, and food or water containers. Candidates wearing articles of religious or cultural faith should report at least two hours before the last reporting time to allow proper frisking.

Type of MalpracticeDebarment Period
Leaving the venue uninformed or removing exam material2 years
Misbehaving with staff, obstructing the exam, or submitting fabricated documents3 years
Forged admit card/ID, copying, possessing electronic gadgets, impersonation, or hacking exam systems5 years

OMR sheets must be marked only with a ballpoint pen (not a pencil). Any erasing, scratching, or use of a whitener detected by the scanning machine results in outright cancellation of the OMR sheet and candidature.

How to Apply for Haryana Staff Selection Commission Group D Recruitment 2026

  1. Visit the official HSSC registration portal at onetimeregn.haryana.gov.in.
  2. Click on “New Registration” and fill in your basic details: name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number.
  3. Create a strong password and confirm it; this will serve as your login credential for future access.
  4. Select your claimed category (General, SC, BC-A, BC-B, EWS, PwBD, ESM, or Freedom Fighter dependent) from the dropdown menu.
  5. Enter your Matriculation roll number and marks obtained; attach a scanned copy of your Matriculation certificate in PDF format (maximum 5 MB).
  6. Upload a recent colour photograph (10-40 KB, 200×230 pixels, white background) and a scanned signature in the same size specifications.
  7. For reserved-category applicants, upload the required category-specific certificate (BCA, BCB, EWS, DSC/OSC, etc.) in PDF format as per the validity windows specified above.
  8. Provide proof of Haryana bona fide residency if claiming reservation benefits: upload either a Haryana bona fide resident certificate or an Aadhaar/PAN card showing a Haryana address.
  9. Accept the terms and conditions, and submit your registration. You will receive a Registration Number immediately – save this for all future correspondence and fee payment.
  10. Log back in using your Registration Number and password, and proceed to the fee payment section.
  11. Select your fee category (based on gender, residency proof status, and reserved category), and complete the payment via SBI Collect or net banking by 06/07/2026 (11:59 PM).
  12. Download and print your confirmation receipt after successful payment; you will receive an admit card on the portal once the exam date is announced.

Do not delay fee payment to the final days – portal traffic peaks sharply on the last date, and session timeouts are common. Submit all documents during the initial registration itself; the correction window (07-09/07/2026) allows only edits to personal information, not document uploads.

Common Mistakes to Avoid While Applying

  • Uploading a BCA, BCB, EWS, or DSC/OSC certificate outside its required validity window – such applications are summarily rejected at the scrutiny stage.
  • Submitting an incomplete document set for your claimed category – the checklist varies by reserved category, and missing even one document disqualifies the application.
  • Creating a fresh registration when you have already registered for CET Advt. No. 1/2022 or CET Advt. No. 1/2025 – Using a different Registration Number will result in your application being cancelled.
  • Leaving a question blank without filling the fifth “not attempted” bubble on the OMR sheet – each such question costs you one mark unnecessarily.
  • Darkening more than one circle for a single question – the OMR machine will void that answer entirely, awarding zero marks.
  • Assuming corrections can be made after final submission – edits are only possible during the 07-09/07/2026 window.
  • Carrying barred items such as mobile phones, smartwatches, wallets, or calculators into the exam hall – these items will be confiscated and may result in debarment.
  • Attempting to use a whitener or eraser pencil marks on the OMR sheet – the scanning machine detects this and cancels your entire candidature.

What Happens After You Apply

  1. Your application is submitted, and the fee payment is confirmed by 06/07/2026 (11:59 PM).
  2. The Commission conducts document verification and scrutiny of all applications from 07/07/2026 onwards.
  3. HSSC releases the CET exam admit card on the official portal; download and print your admit card from https://www.hssc.gov.in once announced.
  4. You appear for the Common Eligibility Test (CET) on the date notified – exam date and centre will be mentioned on your admit card.
  5. The Commission evaluates OMR sheets and publishes a category-wise merit list on the official website.
  6. Eligible candidates are shortlisted for Group D posts; when actual vacancies are advertised separately, you will be notified to apply for specific posts.
  7. Upon recommendation and final verification, you will receive a joining letter from the appointing department.

About the Group D Role

Group D posts in Haryana government departments encompass a wide range of operational and support functions, from maintenance and administrative tasks to field-level operations, depending on the specific posting. These roles typically involve on-site work, physical activity, and adherence to departmental procedures and timelines. Under the 7th Pay Commission, Group D positions are classified as Level 3 posts, marking entry-level central government employment. Careers in these roles focus on steady salary progression and pension benefits, with internal advancement possible to higher group classifications through subsequent promotions or departmental exams.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1. What does “Haryana Bonafide Resident” mean for the Haryana Staff Selection Commission Group D Recruitment 2026?

Ans. A bona fide resident is someone who has resided continuously in Haryana State for at least one year immediately before the closing date of registration (03/07/2026). You must provide proof of residency through a Haryana bona fide resident certificate, Aadhaar card, or PAN card showing a Haryana address. Non-residents of Haryana can apply but will not receive any reservation benefit; they are considered under the general category regardless of their actual caste or social status.

Q2. Can I use my CET 2022 registration number for this Group D CET 2026, or do I need to register afresh?

Ans. If you already registered for CET Advt. No. 1/2022 (held 05-06/11/2022) or CET Advt. No. 1/2025 (held 26-27/07/2025), you must use your existing Registration Number. Do not create a new registration – doing so will result in your duplicate application being cancelled without a refund. Log in using your old registration credentials and update your information if needed.

Q3. I already paid the fee for CET Group C Advt. No. 1/2025. Do I need to pay again for Group D?

Ans. No, you do not need to pay the fee again. A single fee payment under the CET policy covers one attempt valid for both Group C and Group D posts. If you wish to appear in a subsequent CET cycle to improve your score, you will need to pay the fee again.

Q4. What happens if my EWS or BCA certificate is dated 31/03/2026 instead of 01/04/2026 or later?

Ans. Your certificate will not be accepted. BCA, BCB, and EWS certificates must be issued on or after 01/04/2026 to be valid under this notification. Certificates dated before this cutoff will be rejected at the scrutiny stage, regardless of your other eligibility. Request an updated certificate from the issuing authority if yours is dated earlier.

Q5. What is the benefit of filling the fifth “not attempted” bubble on the OMR sheet, and what happens if I don’t?

Ans. The fifth bubble is your way of confirming that you intentionally did not attempt a question. If you leave a question blank but also fail to darken this fifth circle, the system automatically deducts 1 mark from your total score. If you attempt the question and mark a wrong answer, there is no penalty. It is in your interest to either attempt every question or consciously mark the fifth “not attempted” bubble for questions you skip.

Q6. Can I change my exam centre after receiving my admit card?

Ans. Generally, no. The exam centre allocated on your admit card is final and ordinarily will not be changed. If you have genuine extenuating circumstances (illness, accident, family emergency), contact the HSSC office immediately with supporting documentation; however, approval is not guaranteed.

Q7. I have a disability and need a scribe. What documents must I submit?

Ans. If you have blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected), or cerebral palsy, you can use a scribe without additional certification. For all other disabilities, you must submit a certificate from a Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon, or Medical Superintendent confirming the medical necessity for a scribe. Your scribe must be a person with a Matriculation qualification or below and cannot be another exam candidate in the same examination.

Q8. What is the meaning of “combined relaxation benefits” for candidates with multiple eligibility factors?

Ans. If you belong to multiple relaxation categories simultaneously – for example, you are an SC candidate and also an unmarried woman, or an Ex-serviceman with a disability – you may be eligible for combined relaxation, subject to the overall age ceiling of 52 years. The total relaxation cannot exceed the maximum age of 52 years. Consult the detailed notification and Annexure III to confirm your specific combined relaxation amount.

Your Next Step

Begin your registration immediately at onetimeregn.haryana.gov.in before the application window closes on 03/07/2026 at 11:59 PM – applications submitted after this moment will be rejected entirely. Complete all document uploads during your initial submission; the correction window (07-09/07/2026) allows edits to personal information only, not document changes. Submit your fee by 06/07/2026 to secure your candidacy, then monitor https://www.hssc.gov.in for the announcement of the exam date and admit card release.
